Loveshack Keeps the Spirit of the 1980s Alive
For nearly three decades, Loveshack has brought the sound and spirit of the 1980s to festivals, venues, and late night crowds across Norway. Known for energetic performances and an ability to keep audiences singing long after midnight, the band has become a familiar name for anyone looking for a night driven by nostalgia, melodies, and pure entertainment.
We at MyTalent met the band for a conversation ahead of one of their performances, and they were just as warm and entertaining off stage as they are under the spotlight. Between jokes, stories, and reflections from years on the road, the members spoke openly about music, live performances, and why the 1980s continue to resonate with audiences today.
Loveshack consists of Svein on vocals, Aslart on bass and vocals, and Truls behind the drums, together with the band’s guitarist who helps shape the sound that has followed them for nearly 30 years. Since the mid 1990s, the group has travelled around the country with one clear goal in mind: bringing people together through the music of the 1980s.
“We are an 80s cover band, and we have been doing this for 28 years,” Svein says with a smile. “We travel around spreading the joyful message of the 80s.”
With their 30 year anniversary approaching, there is little sign that the energy or enthusiasm has faded. If anything, the band seems more motivated than ever.
Keeping the Party Alive
Loveshack has built a reputation as the band that takes over when the evening reaches its most important moment. They are often booked for the final set of the night, the slot where the atmosphere can either disappear or turn into something unforgettable.
“We usually play late and create the atmosphere at the end of the night,” the band explains. “The goal is to keep the party going and get people out of their seats.”
It is a role they know well. Through hundreds of performances over the years, Loveshack has developed a strong understanding of how to connect with an audience. Their shows are not built around complicated productions or trends. Instead, they focus on something much simpler: recognizable songs, strong melodies, and shared experiences.
Why 80s Music Still Connects With Audiences
According to the band, the lasting popularity of 1980s music comes down to one thing above all else: the melodies.
“A good melody will always be a good melody,” Svein says. “It is not about trends.”
The members describe the decade as colorful, optimistic, and carefree. In their eyes, the music from that era carries a sense of joy that still appeals to people today. Audiences are not only returning for nostalgia, but also for the atmosphere and feeling connected to the songs.
The Audience Means Everything
For Loveshack, audience interaction remains the most important part of performing live.
“It is a two way thing,” one of the members says. “Without the audience, there is no atmosphere.”
Over the years, the relationship between the band and the crowd has become something unique. Fans know what to expect when Loveshack steps onto the stage, and the band knows exactly what kind of energy they want to create in return. The result is often an evening built around singing, dancing, and a sense of uncomplicated fun.
Advice for Young Musicians
When asked what advice they would give younger artists trying to build a career in music today, the answer was immediate.
“Learn how to play and sing properly. Meet people. Perform live. Think long term,” they say. “And most importantly, enjoy what you are doing and do not take shortcuts.”
The advice reflects the journey Loveshack itself has taken. Rather than chasing trends or viral moments, the band has spent decades building a loyal audience through consistency and live performances.
Nearly 30 Years Later
As the band approaches three decades together, one thing remains unchanged. The moment they step onto the stage, the energy immediately shifts.
Night after night, festival after festival, Loveshack continues to prove that strong melodies, live music, and genuine connection with an audience never truly go out of style.
