Malaysia’s xTHExKAIOWASx represents the raw spirit of Southeast Asia’s underground hardcore scene. Formed in 2018, the band built its reputation through authentic music, intense live shows, and pure passion — proving Malaysia’s hardcore culture is still loud, alive, and evolving.

There’s something different about bands that are born from the underground. They do not rely on trends, polished marketing campaigns, or mainstream attention. They survive through passion, friendship, and the kind of energy you can only experience inside small venues filled with sweat, distortion, and people who genuinely live for the music. That is exactly the kind of spirit Malaysia’s xTHExKAIOWASx carries.

Formed in 2018, the band came together when Jack and Thaya from Abler Tribe decided to start a new project fueled by crossover hardcore punk aggression. Like many real underground stories, it all began with a simple social media post searching for a guitarist. Yon, known for projects like MedioMad and .angkasa, discovered the advertisement and took the opportunity to audition. What happened next felt natural, almost immediate.

At first, the band was only a three-piece unit with Jack handling vocals, Thaya on drums, and Yon on guitar. But after just one jamming session, they already knew they had something worth bringing to the stage. Their first live appearance happened during Ramadan in May 2018 at Garage Studio in Melawati, and from there, the noise officially began.

What I admire about xTHExKAIOWASx is how authentic their journey feels. There is no attempt to sound commercial or overly polished. Their music reflects the raw DNA of hardcore punk, aggressive riffs, chaotic energy, and the kind of live performance that feels more like an emotional release than entertainment.

During that first show, the band performed songs inspired by hardcore legends like Disrupt and Integrity while also introducing original material. It was also during that night when Yon reconnected with his former schoolmate, Aizi, who later became the band’s bassist and backup vocalist. Sometimes the underground scene works that way — friendships reconnect through music, and suddenly a band becomes a family.

As the years went by, xTHExKAIOWASx continued building their identity within Malaysia’s hardcore community. They released music, created merchandise that quickly sold out, and strengthened their presence through relentless passion and consistency. Their influences range from Bad Brains, Converge, Fugazi, and Municipal Waste to respected local acts like SecondxCombat, Chronic Mass, Devilica, and Memorial. You can hear all of those influences colliding in their sound, but the band still manages to create something that feels uniquely theirs.

What makes bands like xTHExKAIOWASx important is not just the music itself, but what they represent. They are proof that Southeast Asia’s underground culture remains alive and uncompromising. While the music industry often focuses on numbers, algorithms, and viral content, bands like this continue to build communities through real connections, live shows, and genuine support for one another.

This is also why platforms like MyTalent matter for independent artists today. Across Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, there are countless underground musicians with world-class talent who simply need the right platform to be discovered beyond their local scene. MyTalent helps bridge that gap by giving artists an opportunity to showcase their work globally while staying true to their roots.

And honestly, bands like xTHExKAIOWASx deserve that wider recognition. They represent the side of music that cannot be manufactured — the raw, honest, and rebellious heart of the underground.

If there is one thing this band proves, it is that hardcore punk in Malaysia is far from dead. In fact, it is still loud, passionate, and continuously evolving through bands willing to keep the culture alive.
